THE RYELAND BREED

One of the oldest sheep breeds in Britain, Ryeland sheep originate from Herefordshire some 800 years ago. Grazing the rye pastures under the watch of the Leominster monks the Ryeland provided them with excellent meat and wool.

The modern Ryeland is still known for the quality of its meat and wool, additionally the docility and nature of the breed is second to none thriving in any environment from the uplands to the lowlands. Perfect for smallholders and those new to sheep, the breed is low maintenance, known for its resistance to footrot, excellent maternal instincts and fast growing lambs which can be produced off grass alone.
